During the nineties, as Europe became more interested in Russian Art, Yevgeni Shchukin consigned eight works for display throughout England. Shchukin trusted that eventually his work would be returned. Ten years later the British art consignee contacted Mr. Shchukin to return the long lost work.
This recovered collection is significant in that Shchukin’s paintings are being placed with collectors at a rate far beyond his creation of new pieces. Being older, they allow an examination of the foundation of his later work, and the development over time, of his insights, style, and techniques.
